The “House Critters” Valentine’s Day
If you have read any other stories about Henrietta
Bobbie Bunny, Ducky Duck, Blue Booby, Big Bunny and Rainy Reindeer you know
they like treats. This is why they always watch their humans very closely.
Barb, the
eldest of the female humans, is in the back closet. This really is a small room
off the hallway behind the dressing room that is behind the older humans’
bedroom. She kept most of the items related to special days packed away in this
space. The critters were paying extra attention as special day’s always
involved special food. The major fall and winter holidays were over and two of
the humans had celebrated their birthdays in January, so now they were hoping
something else was going to happen. Rainy was the quietest of the critters so
he was sent to watch what was going on and he was sure she was looking for
something. She did not have to move much to find the bin she wanted as all the containers
were labeled and always put back in their places on the metal racks that lined
each wall. This container was all red and smaller than all but one other
container, which was yellow. Barb took the container out to the dining room, placed
it on the table, took off the top and went back to the closet. The critters all
went to look inside the container hoping to find out if they would be getting
treats and maybe what they would be having. It seemed to them that everything
was red or pink with white trim and had hearts on it, which did not help them
figure out what was coming.
Barb came into
the living room and went into the antique room, which is what the humans call
the room on the other side of the big wooden sliding doors. She picked up the
stuffed rabbit that sat in the big rocking chair and carried it back to her
chair in the living room. The rabbit had on a winter outfit, which Barb took
off to replace it with a denim skirt with a heart on it and a tank top with
“love” stitched on it. The critters noticed this was quite different from the
decorations that were currently out which were mostly snowmen with a few
penguins and a couple of skiers around the house.
Barb had
just got started as lots more heart shaped
items
came out of the container in the dining room to replace some of the winter
decorations. Then she went into the back closet again, this time she came out
with a flag which was part of her flag for all occasion’s collection. The flag was red with pink hearts showing two
Dalmatian dogs kissing, the critters thought it was cute but were sure they
would look better on it. Bob, who had been reading while reclining in his La-Z-Boy
chair, was instructed to take this flag outside to replace the snowman flag.
Next Barb
put glass bowls on coffee tables, hutches and end tables in the antique room,
living room and dining room. Then she want back around to put small items in
each that were red, green or silver and had a little piece of paper sticking
out of the top.
This really
got all the critters attention as the bunnies, with their keen sense of smell,
decided there was chocolate inside the shinny wrapping paper. The candy was
easy to get, easy to open and just the right size, they were very happy. They
still did not know what special day it was going to be, but with chocolate all
around the house and within their reach they did not really care!
